About Hallsville

Welcome to the Hallsville School web page.

Hallsville, built in 1891, is the oldest active school in the city. There have been additions to Hallsville, the first in 1908, when four classrooms were added. The second addition occurred in 1992 when a combination gymnasium/cafeteria was added. Hallsville's latest addition gave us a new library/media center, bathroom facilities, playground equipment, office space and storage. The summer of 2004 new flooring was installed. The heating, electrical, and air circulation systems have been modernized. The final phase of the renovations brought fresh coat of paint throughout the school interior. The gymnasium entrance will receive a facelift with school colors during the 2011/2012 academic year.

Hallsville is a unique institution, a small neighborhood school in an old and established neighborhood. Many of Hallsville's students are the second or third generation of their families to have attended the school. There is a strong sense of community at Hallsville fueled by pride and a nostalgic fondness for a building that seems to be able to retain the richness of the past while undergoing changes for the future.

We presently have a student population of about 350 students in Kindergarten, Grades 0ne, Two, Three, Four, and Five. It is a diverse population that reflects the characteristics of the neighborhood and city.

Hallsville is fortunate to have an experienced and dedicated staff. The teachers have high expectations for their students and work hard to ensure that each student reaches his/her potential.

We must establish a strong home/school partnership in which parents and teachers work together for the benefit of the children. Communication is an essential part of the educational program. Parents are encouraged to communicate with their child's teacher, to discuss progress and ways in which they can collaborate to enhance their child's education.

The Hallsville Parent-Teacher Group (HPTG) is the student/ teacher support group at Hallsville. The HPTG continues to work to provide the resources and experiences that will make their children's elementary experience rewarding and enjoyable. Parents are encouraged to attend HPTG meetings on the first Tuesday of every month.

We have set high academic expectations and nurtured a strong sense of community at 275 Jewett Street. Please take the time to review our student handbook for valuable information about Hallsville school.
