September, 2016
School, Building, Architecture ...

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!   We have been very busy for over a month to get ready for the start of our year!  Our first PTG Meeting will be held next Monday, September 12th @ 6:30 pm in the Library.

As we begin our second year together, we are excited about

everything that will be taking place this year--in addition to every-day learning!   We hope that you enjoyed some good books and some quality family time!

There is always so much to share, but here are the important items for the first week.  An updated letter will come out within a week or so letting you know about some exciting curriculum items and The Leader in Me process at Hallsville.

  • The start and end times for all Manchester elementary schools remain the same as last year.  Student arrival begins at 8:15, with breakfast being served in the cafeteria.   At 8:30, the first bell rings, and the students begin check-in, review, and morning meeting.  The late bell rings at 8:45.    Dismissal begins at 2:50.  Remember to tell your child’s teacher when you take them out of line.  This is for everyone’s safety.

  • Car drop-off and pick-up routines are the same as in previous years, and are quoted here from our handbook:

Traffic around the school at arrival and dismissal times can be very challenging. We ask for your patience and assistance to keep all children safe.  If you are driving your child to school in the morning, please drop him or her off and leave promptly allowing other parents to take your parking space.  If you are picking up your child in the afternoon, please park and leave promptly after receiving your child to open parking spaces for other parents.  Do not park on or block the street in front of the school on Jewett Street as this is the bus lane.

  • Kindergarten parents, please note that there will be a parent/child orientation on Thursday, September 8th from 9-11 or 12-2.   You are welcome to attend the session that is most convenient for you.   There are activities planned for the students and information sessions for the parents.  Kindergarten students’ first day is Wednesday, September 14th.     Because of last minute registrations, Kindergarten students will find out their class placements a few days after Orientation.   Once they start school,  there will be plenty of adults helping out to assure a smooth transition.   Bring your cameras!  More detailed information will be provided at orientation, so we look forward to seeing you then!

  • The Hallsville Handbook, along with other important paperwork,  will come home with your child the first week of school.  Your prompt attention to this important document is really appreciated!   Please sign and return the handbook receipt and the photo permission receipt.

  • We have several new staff members this year, and I will introduce them in our next newsletter.

  • Just a reminder, please contact the school nurse if you have any questions about medication forms, distribution of medication, physicals, or other medical issues.  She will be happy to assist you.

Like any school, we expect the first few days to be a little hectic.   We will do our best to help solve any problems that arise so that our students have a great start to learning.   Thanks for your patience as we work through everything!

My door is always open.  If I am available, I will be happy to meet with you.   If I am in a classroom, assisting a student, a staff member, or another parent, making an appointment would be most efficient and appreciated.   My email is if you would like to communicate that way.   I will get back to you as soon as time allows.

Thank you for entrusting your students to us!   We look forward to a tremendous year together at Hallsville School!
